Body Weight Does Matter!

Exercise and diet go hand in hand
A recent study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology demonstrated that while exercise does benefit health immensely, it does not cancel out the health effects that accompany excess body fat. The study found the following:

  • Those who had an ideal body weight and were fit lived the longest.
  • Individuals who were in shape but overweight had an increased risk of death of 32% for women and 25% for men.
  • Those who were slim and unfit increased their risk by 30% for women and 44% for men.
  • Those who were unfit and overweight had the greatest risk of death with 57% for women and 44% for men.
